While attending a singing competition with my husband who sings in Anvil Chorus I was approached by Carol Smith who sings lead in Second City Sound. She invited me along to a Monday night rehearsal and 8 years later here I am singing bass with them and what an exciting journey I have been on.
I have always enjoyed performing as I started dance lessons (ballet, tap, stage, modern) when only three years old, continuing these into my twenties. I qualified as a Ballet teacher and taught ballet for a number of years. When I began work as a nursery nurse in an inner-city school in Birmingham I ran a ‘free’ dance club for children at the school. This ran for several years before I moved to a teaching job in a local secondary school. I am currently a choreographer and artistic director for Handsworth Scout and Guide Gang Show, a variety type show with a cast of 80 to 100 people aged 8 to 80 years. I also had a brief spell being a synchronised swimming instructor!
I have recently retired from being a teacher and now with time on my hands I have taken on the role of chair for Second City Sound.
I have been married to Colin for 34 years, and we have 2 wonderful children and one delightfully lovely granddaughter.
As I continue as chair with our new MD and exciting new repertoire of songs I can only anticipate where our journey will take us……..
