Rob has Barbershop in his blood and followed in his father’s footsteps, joining Sheffield men’s Barbershop chorus at the tender age of 12. From then on, he was hooked.
As a singer he has won 5 National chorus gold medals and became at the time, along with three others, the youngest quartet champions in BABS’ history with the Likely Lads in 2000. Rob also sang in This Way Up quartet from 2007 to 2009 and achieved Bronze at BABS national convention in 2007.
As a director he has led Grand Central chorus to gold in 2003, then on the international stage in Louisville in 2004.
Rob then went on to form his own chorus Tuxedo Junction, which he founded in 2009; they repeatedly made the top ten at BABS national championships and won the small chorus award numerous times. They were renowned for pushing the boundaries of Barbershop with one-of-a-kind songs and inventive choreography.
Alongside being a regular on the stage, Rob is an experienced coach having worked with a plethora of chorus and quartets not only in the UK but across Europe as well for over 25 years.
Another of Rob’s achievements is co-founding the BABS Youth chorus (NBYC) which over the years introduced and nurtured some of today’s top Barbershoppers; many of the members of the NBYC have gone on to win gold medals, direct choruses and become coaches themselves.
After a short break to raise a young family, Rob returned to Barbershop in 2020 to direct Second City Sound, a lady’s Barbershop chorus in LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers). The chorus will be competing under Rob’s direction for the first time in 2023 at the LABBS national convention.
When he’s not busy with Barbershop, Rob runs his own landscaping business Garden Barber UK.
